Description 142-147
The bulk of the prey is made up of Stolephorus spp (30%) and Puntius spp (31%). Teleosts dominate the food of the females (63%), the 2 larger size groups (65.75% and 81%) showing clear piscivorous tendencies. The much higher prey-devouring capacity in C. commersonii in relation to length and weight coupled with its shoaling habits and abundance make up for its size (up to 160 mm) as effective natural predator. The impact of these predators in the natural waters and culture systems is discussed.
