Extracellular production by phytoplankton in the Andaman Sea varies from 0 to 1.2 mg C m-3 hr -1 at different depths representing a loss of 0 to 85% of photosynthate. Primary production in Campbell Bay, Great Nicobar, is significantly higher than in any other region of the Andaman Sea with a value of 4.4 mg C m-3 hr -1. Some results on dark fixation of carbon dioxide from depths below the euphotic zone are discussed. |
