Achaetobonellia maculata and Acanthobonellia vulgaris (Bonellidae) are abundantly available at 5 to 7 m depths from Pirotan Island (Gulf of Kutch), while Anelassorhynchus branchiorhynchus (Echiuridae) is found in scattered clusters from the mud-flats of Hooghly Estuary at Sagar Island. The former live vertically in a straight burrow in coral reefs, whereas the latter lives horizontally in the burrow in soft muddy bottoms; the mucous-lined burrows may go as deep as 15-20 cm below the sediment surface, but the majority are shallower. Unidentified helminths, crabs and molluscs are associated with these echiurans. A few protozoans are also observed in the coelomic fluid.
