Description 150-154
Seasonal and spatial fluctuations in chlorophyll, phyto and zoo-plankton standing stock and species composition together with physical and chemical oceanographic parameters in the coastal waters of Kuwait during March to May 1978 are reported. The values range from: chlorophyll a, 0.195 to 13.87 mg/m3; total chlorophyll, 0.7 to 135.9 mg/m3; total phytoplankton cell counts, 0.014 to 414.3 million cells/m3; zooplankton volume, 0.04 to 2.1 ml/m3; and zooplankton numbers, 15-3149/m3. Areawise averages and ranges for all the observed parameters are also calculated and compared. Ratio of phytoplankton standing stock to zooplankton standing stock is 1.06 which proves that comparatively high rate of primary productivity in the study area is insufficient for supporting the zooplankton standing stock.
