Allometric relationships between length, height, depth and weight in Perna viridis, collected from Narakkal Coast, Cochin, Kerala, India, showed that in the case of length-height and length-depth relationships, the slopes of the smaller size group (< 14 mm shell length) were higher than that of the larger size group ( >14 mm shell length). But the allometric relationship between height and depth was same for both the size groups. In relating length (L) with weight (W), the conventional allometric equation, W = aLb, was not applicable. Hence a new equation, W = e0.23026 alpha (10 log L)b, was proposed. Plotting of log (10 log L) against log (10 log W) gave a linear relationship for the entire size range of mussels studied. |
