Description 222-223
While studying pollution effects on physiology and ecology of benthic organisms at the Visakhapatnam Harbour, Andhra Pradesh, India, large number of tubificid (Oligochaeta) worms are found forming patchy mats in the southern lighter channel, which receives the town's sewage effluents. The worms belong to 2 new species of Monopylephorus/Rhizodrilus, which are reported for the first time from the Indian waters. The dominance of the tubificid populations indicates a high degree of organic pollution in the harbour.
