Environmental parameters like temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and phosphate were studied at a station in the Zuari Estuary, Goa, India (15°27'N; 73°48'E) during June 1974-September 1975. Marked seasonal variations were noticed both in surface and bottom (4-5 m). Phosphate levels were generally higher in bottom samples while nitrate contents were higher at the surface. There was similarity in the patterns of nitrite and ammonia distributions. Changes observed during the monsoon were attributed to the influence of precipitation and fresh water influx from land. |
