Adyar and Cooum estuaries of Madras, deposit, especially during monsoon, in the near shore waters of the Bay of Bengal a substantial population of euryhaline diatoms. Laboratory studies over 2 yr indicate the continued presence of a sizable euryhaline component in the diatoms of the Bay. It is likely that they contribute to abundance of near shore phytoplankton. |
