Wave energy distribution, direction of longshore currents and the volume of littoral transport at 4 m depth contour along Calangute beach (from Aguada to Baga) were worked out from the wave refraction diagrams for predominant waves approaching the shore from directions varying between SW and WNW and periods varying from 6 to 12 sec. Probable areas of rip currents were demarcated along the beach. These areas generally coincided with the areas of low wave energy. It was estimated that about 9 million m3 of littoral drift takes place along this beach annually. The net annual drift of 1.9 million m3 was directed towards north. |
