Description 271-275
Primary productivity was measured at 56 day stations in the northern Arabian Sea during the Oceanovex Expedition of INS Darshak (December 1973-May 1974). Daily primary productivity averaged 8.4 mgC mu-3 at the surface and 698.39 mgC m-2 in the euphotic column. Column productivity in the shelf region(875.96 mgCm-2) was higher than in the offshore region (607.2 mgCm-2). Primary productivity by the simulated in situ method was greater than the in situ method by a factor of 2. Integral mean concentration (for the euphotic column) of inorganic phosphate and nitrate for the entire region averaged 1.01 and 2.18 µg-at 1-1 respectively. Zooplankton biomass averaged 0.22 ml-3. Correlation between primary productivity and zooplankton biomass was positive, although not significant while the correlation between primary productivity and nutrients was negative.
