I. cumingi is an intertidal pedunculate cirriped found at many places in India. The larval metamorphosis of this barnacle from the 1st nauplius stage through the cyprid larva has been described. The naupliar characters such as setation of the antennules, carapace sculpture, abdominal bulb and the caudal process have been described and compared with those of megabalanid, balanid, chthamalid and tetraclitid barnacles reared in the laboratory. This is the first account of pedunculate larvae, which includes all 6 nauplii and a cyprid stage raised in the laboratory. |
