Light penetration in Vellar Estuary and near shore water of Porto Novo, has been studied during February to April, 1969. The study reveals that more than 50% light is reduced even at a depth of 0.5 m in estuarine region. Yellow light penetrates deepest at all stations. Blue light is much reduced in the estuarine region. Compensation depth has not been observed even at the bottom of the entire estuary. The relation between attenuation coefficient and chlorophyll has been discussed. |
