Data on the quantity of chlorophyll a in the euphotic zone have been used to determine the maximum possible standing stock and primary productivity of a phytoplankton community. The results show that maximum primary productivity of 1.5-9 g Cd/m2/day can be achieved only in shallow water columns. |
