Occurrence of three types of individuals, viz., parthenogenetic females, sexual females and makes, in P. avirostris is reported with a note on its fecundity. Penilia seems to reproduce by cyclical parthenogenesis as indicated by the occurrence of an alternation of parthenogenetic and sexually reproducing individuals. A positive relationship between size of the parent and number of eggs and embryos is also noted. |
