Diurnal variations in temperature of surface waters followed closely the air temperature and tidal rhythm with low values occurring during flood tide and high values during ebb. A direct relationship between salinity and tide was observed. The concentration of nutrients increased during ebb tide, with the incursion of freshwater. A close correspondence between chlorophyll and phytoplankton cell number was observed. The diurnal changes in pigment ratio paralleled those in dinoflagellate numbers. |
