Relative efficacy of water, aqueous ethanol and cation exchange resin for extraction of free amino acids from marine green alga, U. fasciata, has been studied. Qualitatively amino acid composition remains the same in all the 3 procedures. Aqueous ethanol and resin give reproducible results, but recovery of acidic and basic compounds is comparatively less with aqueous ethanol than with resin which in turn gives very poor recovery of pyrrolidine compounds. |
