Though the genus Acheus of the subfamily Inachinae of the majid crabs is well represented in the Indian waters, larvae are not so far known in any of the members. The description of 2 zoeal and megalopa stages of Acheus lacertosus, reared in laboratory, forms the first account of metamorphosis in this genus from the Indian waters. Necessary comparisons are made of the present material with that of A. tuberculatus from Japan, the only other species in which the life history is known. |
