Description 210-215
Serum levels of testosterone and sex-hormone
binding globulin (SHBG) were measured in 31 patients with breast carcinoma and
33 patients with carcinoma of the uterine cervix along with 30 healthy
(control) women. Amongst the patients of breast cancer, significantly higher
level of testosterone and a low level of SHBG were found in comparison with the
other two groups. The study has revealed that testosterone and SHBG may have an
indirect role in breast cancer, probably through their influences on the amount
of bioavailable estrogen.
