Summary, etc. The electron and hole wave functions have been studied in the present paper using envelope function approximation. The hole Hamiltonian in a hexagonal crystal is obtained from the Luttinger Hamiltonian. The total angular momentum F and parity will be conserved leading to the mixing of states with same F value and equal parity. The values of dipole moments calculated for various transitions are discussed in the present paper. If a given transition is allowed in the dipole approximation with linearly polarized light, it cannot be allowed with circularly polarized light and vice-versa.
