Description A field trial was conducted at Research Institute on Organic
Farming unit, Agricultural Research Station, Balajigapade of the UAS
Bangalore to study the effect of enriched bio-digester liquid manure on
growth and yield of organic finger millet during kharif season, 2011.
Treatments were laid out in a RCBD with three replications.
Treatments were compared with recommended practice consisting of
FYM 7.5 t & 50-40-25 kg NPK ha-1. Bio-digester liquid manure
contained 0.25% N, 0.08% P2O5 and 0.09% K2O and on enrichment
either with poultry manure or neem cake & rock phosphate, increased
the contents to 1% N, 0.66% P2O5 & 0.60% K2O. Application of the
above enriched bio-digester liquid manure equivalent to 60 kg N ha-1
produced significantly the highest grain yield (3893 & 3849 kg ha-1,
respectively) as compared to recommended practice (2741 kg ha-1).
Further, grain yield (2836 kg ha-1) produced by the application of biodigester
liquid manure without enrichment equivalent to 60 kg N ha-1
was on par with recommended practice. This was attributed to higher
dry matter production, increased finger length, grain yield plant-1 and
1000 grain weight besides higher uptake of N, P2O5 and K2O by the
crop. Population of bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes in soil were
increased by bio-digester liquid manure & also by its enrichment as
compared to inorganic fertilizers. Further, high net returns (Rs.38873
ha-1) & B:C ratio (2.78) were realized with the application of enriched
bio-digester liquid manure with poultry manure and rock phosphate
equivalent to 60 kg N ha-1.
