Description Studies on the “Occurrence and Management of Pest complex on
Cauliflower” were undertaken during rabi, 2003-04 at Agricultural College
Farm, Bapatla.
The seasonal incidence of the pest complex on cauliflower was
recorded at weekly intervals from a total of 50 plants from five different
locations, ten plants per location were randomly selected and tagged for
taking observations throughout the cropping period. The data with regard
to the seasonal incidence indicated that December and January months
were favourable for the multiplication of tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera
litura (Fab.), diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Linn.) and mustard
aphid, Lipaphis erysimi (Kalt.). The peak incidence of P. xylostella and L.
erysimi was recorded during the second week of January while, S. litura
during the third week of January.
In the management trial, the efficacy of the treatments viz.,
profenophos, thiodicarb, spinosad, neemoil and their combinations with
lufenuron and B.t. against S. litura, P. xylostella and L. erysimi was
evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications.
The results indicated that combination treatments of spinosad 0.0075
% with B.t. 0.1% and lufenuron 0.005% and individual treatment of
spinosad 0.015% were the most effective in reducing the larval population of
S. litura and P. xylostella as well as in giving higher yields.
In case of mustard aphid, the evaluation of different treatments
revealed that profenophos 0.05% and thiodicarb 0.075% individually and
their combinations with lufenuron 0.005% and B.t. 0.1% were highly
effective in reducing the population of L. erysimi.
