Description |
The experiment entitled “Response of soil and foliar application of nutrients on growth and yield attributes of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.)” was carried out at Horticultural Research cum Instructional Farm, Department of Horticulture, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) during Rabi season 2009-10. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with four replication and 6 treatments with and without combination of water soluble fertilizer. The results revealed that the growth characters i.e. plant height, number of primary and secondary branches per plant were found superior in 87.5% recommended dose of NPK along with foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers followed by 100% recommended dose of NPK + foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers. The yield contributing characters i.e. number of fruits per plant, number of fruits per cluster, fruit weight, fruit diameter and fruits per plant were recorded higher in 87.5% recommended dose of NPK + foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers followed by 100 % recommended dose of NPK + foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers. The TSS content were found better in 87.5% recommended dose of NPK + foliar spray of water soluble fertilizers and acidity content were high in 100 % recommended dose of NPK (control). The flowering, fruiting, maturity and harvesting were found earlier under control as compared to other treatments applied in the investigation. Economically 87.5% recommended dose of NPK + foliar spray of water soluble fertilizer was recorded highest net return and benefit – cost ratio, Rs. 125890.05 and 2.73 respectively. |
