Description A long-term field experiment was started at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Tirupati of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University during kharif-1981. The present study entitled “Long-term effect of manure and fertilizers on uptake of nutrients and yield of groundnut under rainfed conditions” was undertaken during kharif-2011 with a prime objective of monitoring the changes in concentration and uptake of nutrients in plant at different stages of growth over a period of time. The soil of the experimental field was red sandy loam (Haplustalf). The experiment has eleven treatments each replicated four times in a randomized block design. The treatments include T1 : Control (no manure or fertilizers), T2 : Farm yard manure @ 5 t ha-1 (once in 3 years), T3 : 20 kg Nitrogen (N) ha-1, T4 : 10 kg Phosphorus (P) ha-1, T5 : 25 kg Potassium (K) ha-1, T6 : 250 kg gypsum ha-1, T7 : 20 kg N + 10 kg P ha-1, T8 : 20 kg N + 10 kg P + 25 kg K ha-1, T9 : 20 kg N + 10 kg P + 25 kg K + 250 kg gypsum ha-1, T10 : 20 kg N + 10 kg P + 25 kg K + 100 kg lime ha-1, T11 : 20 kg N + 10 kg P + 25 kg K + 250 kg gypsum ha-1 + 25 kg zinc sulphate ha-1.
Pod yield and yield attributing factors were studied along with available soil nutrients and changes in nutrient concentration and uptake of nutrients during kharif-2011. Soil samples were collected from each plot at surface (0-15 cm) and subsurface (15-30 cm) before sowing of crop. Soils were analysed for physico-chemical and chemical properties. Index leaf

samples at 35 days after sowing and plant samples at 25, 50, 75 days after sowing and at harvest were collected from each plot. Plant samples were analysed for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn.
Application of FYM and inorganic fertilizers with different combinations to groundnut over a period of 30 years did not change the soil pH and EC significantly but markedly changed the organic carbon and available nutrient contents of the soil. The available phosphorus and available potassium were gradually depleted in all the treatments but the magnitude of depletion was less in the treatments which received P and K respectively. The build-up of exchangeable calcium and magnesium content of the soil over a period of thirty years was observed. Application of gypsum or lime to rainfed groundnut increased the sulphur content of the soil over a period of thirty years. With respect to the micronutrients, zinc was significantly higher in NPK + gypsum + ZnSO4 treatment whereas the iron was highest in N + P + K treatment as compared to others.
Dry matter production of the crop gradually increased from 25 DAS to harvest with increase of age of the crop irrespective of the treatments. Higher dry matter production was recorded in NPK + gypsum + ZnSO4 followed by FYM @ 5 t ha-1.
The concentration of nutrients like N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn were highest at 25 DAS and decreased with an increase in age of crop upto 75 DAS and then increased upto harvest. With respect to S, it was higher at 25 DAS as compared to the sulphur concentration at 50 DAS and again decreased from 75 DAS to harvest of the crop irrespective of the treatments. Uptake of different nutrients viz., N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn studied in this experiment was increased with increase in age of crop from 25 DAS to harvest irrespective of the treatments. Among the treatments the concentration and uptake was higher in the treatment NPK + gypsum + ZnSO4 while lower values were observed in control.
Nutrient concentration in the index leaf are in the sufficiency range irrespective of the treatments in the present study.
Pod and haulm yields were significantly influenced by the treatments. The higher pod and haulm yields were observed in the treatment NPK + gypsum + ZnSO4 followed by FYM and NPK + gypsum.
