Description |
An experiment was carried out on “Effect of organic inputs on yield and quality of cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.)” var. BPP8 (H 2/16) at Cashew Research Station under AICRP on Cashew, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar during 2013-14 and 2014- 15 adapting randomized block design (RBD) having eight treatments replicated thrice. The treatments were T 1 -100 per cent N as FYM, T 2 -100 per cent N as FYM + Biofertilizers (Azotobacter + Azospirillum + PSB) 200 g, T 3 -50 per cent N as FYM + Biofertilizers (200g), T 4 -100 per cent N as Vermicompost + Biofertilizers (200g), T 5 - Recycling of organic residue with the addition of 20 per cent cow dung slurry, T 6 - In situ green manuring to meet 100 per cent N, T 7 - 25 per cent N as FYM + recycling of organic residue + in situ green manuring/green leaf manuring + Biofertilizers (200g) and T 8 - RDF + 10 kg FYM (Control). Biometrical observations on vegetative characters, flowering characters, yield attributes and quality parameters were recorded time to time. The chemical analysis of the soil and plant tissue was carried out as per the standard procedure. Application of RDF along with 10 kg FYM recorded maximum value in plant height (5.05 m), canopy spread (7.88 m), production of laterals (26.91) and flowering laterals (22.48), number of perfect flowers (92.34), sex ratio (0.20), number of nuts per square meters (22.48), nuts per panicle (8.18), nut weight (8.73g), shelling percentage (28.63) and nut yield (14.06 q/ha). Application of 100per cent N as FYM + Biofertilizers recorded for second highest effects as regard to vegetative parameters on growth. Whereas 25 per cent N as FYM + recycling of organic residue + in situ green manuring/ green leaf manuring + biofertilizers noted for second highest effects on production of laterals, number of nuts per square meters(22.01), nuts per panicle(7.63), nut weight(8.49g), kernel weight(2.38g), shelling per cent (28.08)and nut yield(10.19q/ha) and quality parameters like maximum (5.03mg/100g edible part)Ascorbic acid content. Although inorganic treatment produced more yield but the quality was better in treatment that received 100per cent N as FYM + Vermicompost and combined application of 25 per cent N as FYM +recycling of organic residue.+ in situ green manuring/ green leaf manuring + Biofertilizers. The soil which received combined application of 25 per cent N as FYM + recycling of organic residue + in situ green manuring + Biofertilizers, remained more porous & the inorganic treatment recorded lowest biological activity measured in terms of microbial respiration and dehydrogenase activity. It was found that the tree height was positively correlated with yield. The tree girth, total number of flowers, number of nuts, staminate flowers were not significantly correlated. The percentage of perfect flowers was positively correlated with yield whereas staminate flower was negatively correlated. The nut yield was correlated with leaf N, P, K and soil N, P, K. The cost benefit ratio was highest i.e., 1.852 in RDF + 10 kg FYM followed by T 7 (1.763) and minimum was recorded in T 4 (1.67). The recommended dose of fertilizer and an addition of 10 kg FYM is most beneficial and economical, but 25 per cent N as FYM, recycling of organic residue, in situ green manuring/green leaf manuring and biofertilizers must be recommended from the view point of environmental sustainability and equity. |
