Description |
The present study was carried out to analyse the effect of dyeing and printing on oak tasar/wool blended fabric. For the study reactive dyes and acid dyes were used for dyeing and printing. Optimum conditions using reactive dyes for dyeing the blended fabric ranged between, pH 5-7, for 60-70 minutes of dyeing time at 60-90°C using 2-5% dye concentration. In case of acid dye optimum dying condition included, pH 6-7 for 55-70 minutes of dyeing time at 70-80°C using 2-4% dye concentration. The conditions were optimized on the basis of optical density and washfastness grades which ranged between good to excellent for all the dyes. The optimized parameters for printing included concentration of thickening agent (sodium alginate), steaming time duration, and steaming temperature. The conditions were optimized on the basis of CIE Lab and K/S values and washfastness of the printed samples. Optimum condition for printing the blended fabric with reactive dyes ranged between, 3-5% sodium alginate concentration for 15-20 minutes of steaming time at 90-100°C steaming temperature. The best result for acid dye ranged between 4-5% sodium alginate concentration, steaming time 15-20 minutes at 90-100°C steaming temperature. Later the physical and mechanical properties of the undyed fabric was tested and compared with dyed and printed fabric. Physical and mechanical properties studied included fabric weight, fabric thickness, bending length, flexural rigidity, drape coefficient, crease recovery and tensile strength, tearing strength, elongation, abrasion resistance and air permeability. Sample dyed with AY36 dye (58.42±0.38cc/sec/cm2) and printed with (112.98±3.07 cc/sec/cm2) AY110 dye showed significantly highest result for air permeability. The colour fastness properties for all the sets of dyed and printed fabric were evaluated. The best light fastness grades for dyeing with reactive dyes were excellent to outstanding. For rubbing fastness in case of dry and wet rubbing using reactive dye ranged between good to excellent. For perspiration fastness grades in acidic and alkaline media for both reactive and acid dyes ranged between good to excellent. Later different eight products were also prepared using tie-dye, batik, block printing and screen printing technique. These were then evaluated for consumer viability. In women’s apparel stole was most preferable products followed by cape.
