Description |
Studies on “Effect of tillage and integrated nutrient management in pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.) and fingermillet (Eleusinae coracana L.) cropping system in relation to weed dynamics” were conducted at GKVK, UAS, Bengaluru during 2010-12. In field experiment, the main-plot treatments comprised of 3 tillage practices {conventional tillage (CT)- 3 ploughings + 3 intercultivations, reduced tillage (RT)-2 ploughings + 2 intercultivations and minimum tillage (MT)-1 ploughing + 1 intercultivation} and sub – plot treatments of 3 nutrient management practices { F1:100 % N through urea, F2:100 % N through organic source (50 % N through FYM+50 % N through Glyricidia) and F3:Integrated supply of N (50 % N through urea+ 25 % N through FYM+ 25 % N through Glyricidia)}. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. In pot culture experiment, treatment combinations of 3 tillage practices (CT, RT and MT), 3 nutrient management practices (F1, F2 & F3) and three soil depths (10 cm, 20 cm and 30 cm) were tried in CRD. Conventional tillage produced higher seed yield of pigeonpea (1025 kg ha-1) and grain yield of fingermillet (3030 kg ha-1) with B:C ratio of 2.96 and 3.57 respectively as compared to RT and MT. Among nutrient management practices, F2 recorded higher seed yield of pigeonpea (1198 kg ha-1) with higher B:C ratio of 3.47, whereas in fingermillet, F3 gave higher grain yield of 2666 kg ha-1 with higher B:C ratio of 3.23. In pot culture experiment, among different soil depths, top layer (10 cm depth) recorded significantly higher weed seed count (53.16 per kg of soil) compared to other soil depths. Among tillage and soil depths, CT at all the depths recorded significantly lower weed seed count (16.59, 13.56 and 9 per kg of soil respectively) compared to RT and MT at different soil depths. |
