Description A study was undertaken to evaluate 94 french bean genotypes, identify optimum
spacing and fertilizer level for newly developed genotypes and their stable nature under 3
fertilizer level at the mars, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during kharif 2004.
For this, two experiments were conducted using randomized block design in experiment I and
split split plot design in experiment II.
Out of 11 characters studied genotypic and phenotypic variation were high for green
pod yield per plant. High heritability coupled with genetic advance was recorded for green
pod yield per plant, single green pod weight, number of green pods per plant, green pod
width and green pod length.
Green pod yield per plant had shown positive and significant association for all the
characters studied except days to first flowering, days to 50 per cent flowering, green pod
width and green pod breadth. Number of green pods per plant exhibited high positive and
direct effect on yield them other characters.
Using estimated D² values, 94 genotypes were grouped into 6 clusters. The highest
inter cluster distance was noticed between cluster III and cluster VI.
The their newly developed genotypes showed significantly higher values for all the
parameters studied except for plant height in 40 x 20 cm, while green pod yield per hectare
was maximum in 30 x 15 cm.
Most of yield attributes studied showed optimum values for 100 per cent RDF level.
‘DWD-FB-53’ exhibited higher benefit cost ratio (4.33) at 30 x 15 cm with 125 per cent
RDF.
Significant genotype x environment interactions for green pod yield per plant and
green pod yield per hectare was recorded. ‘DWD-FB-53’ and ‘DWD-FB-57’ were exhibited
stable under favourable environments, while ‘DWD-FB-1’ had shown stability in all the
environments for green pod yield per hectare.
