Description A survey and an incubation study were carried out for a cluster of villages of Sirsi
taluk to study the dynamics of phosphorus in soils. The soils of the survey area are acidic in
nature, low in salt content, medium to high in organic matter content, high in crystalline Fe
and Al and amorphous Fe and Al. Reductant soluble P is the dominant P fraction among the P
fractions. Saloid P is the least P fraction among the P fractions. The content of available P
ranged from low to medium.
Incubation study revealed that saloid P values were found to increase during initial
period of incubation but later decreased in all the treatments and higher values were recorded
in P as DAP. Calcium P values were found to increase significantly in all the treatments and
highest were recorded in P as phosphatic fertilizer + lime. Reductant soluble P values were
found to decrease in all the treatments. Occluded P values were found to increase during
initial period of incubation but later these values were found to decrease in all the treatments.
Amorphous and crystalline iron decreased in all the treatments except P-solubilizer
treatments upto 60th DAI but 90 DAI, these fractions decreased in all the treatments except
lime. The amorphous and crystalline Al decreased in all the treatments during incubation
except P-solubilizer treatments. The available P content increased in all the treatments upto
60 DAI and after 60 DAI, this fraction decreased in all the treatments, but the values were
significantly higher over control except P as RP. At the end of incubation period, the Psolubilizers
population significantly increased in all the treatments and highest was found in
P as RP + P-solubilizers.
