ABSTRACT The present investigation entitled “Effect of fertilizer levels and organic manures on growth, yield and quality of garlic (Allium sativum L.)” was carried out during Rabi season of 2012-2013 at the Horticulture complex, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (M.P.). The experimental material for the present investigation was comprised of 12 treatment combination of organic manures and inorganic fertilizer levels in garlic. The experiment was laid out in three replications in the Randomized complete Block Design to observed morphological, phonological, yield characters and soil analysis and to estimate the economic viability. Observations were recorded on the basis of five random competitive plants selected as per standard procedure and also determine the soil analysis and economics. The analysis of variance components and coefficient of variation for all observation was worked out by Panse and Sukhatme (1967). On the basis of results, the present investigation is summarized as follows: with the following objectives: 1. To study the combined effect of inorganic and organic source of nutrients on growth, yield and quality of garlic. 2. To evaluate the influence of Integrated Nutrient Management on physical and chemical composition of soil. 3. To find out the economics of different treatments. Growth and yield of garlic was significantly affected due to various treatments of fertilizer levels and organic manures. Application of Poultry manure 7.5t/ha. + 100:50:50:50 kg NPKS/ha. (T11) exhibited maximum values and which was statistically superior and followed by T12 (Vermicompost 7.5t/ha. + 100:50:50:50 kg NPKS/ha.). The soil properties viz., soil pH, organic content (%), available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content increased with the various treatments of fertility levels and organic manure, as compared to initial status. Whereas, electrical conductivity (EC) and sulphur content of soil deviated from their initial status in almost all the treatments due to effect of crops. It is revealed from the data obtained that a significantly maximum bulb yield of 44.40q/ha was obtained in garlic variety G - 323. The net return of Rs 89204/ha and cost benefit ratio 1:2.01 was observed under the treatment T11 (Poultry manure 7.5t/ha.+ 100:50:50:50kg NPKS/ha.). |
