Canine demodicosis is a frequent parasitic skin disease resulting from excessive proliferation of the mite Demodex canis within the hair follicles (Scott et al., 1995). They are normal commensals on canine skin but are capable of producing generalized disease if mite numbers proliferate. (Shipstone, 2000).
