Description A field trial was conducted in the Department of Horticulture,
College of Agriculture, GKVK, Bangalore during the year 2010-11 to
assess the “Influence of growth regulators on growth, flowering and yield
of china aster (Callistephus chinensis L. Nees) cv. Kamini.”
The Gibberellic Acid (GA3 @ 50, 100 & 150 ppm) and Cycocel (CCC
@ 1000, 2000 & 3000 ppm) along with drip irrigation and black
polyethylene mulch (40 μ) were replicated thrice in a RCBD. The growth
regulators were sprayed at 15, 30 & 45 days intervals after
transplanting, as foliar spray.
Application of Cycocel with Black Polyethylene Mulch (40μ) and
Drip Irrigation resulted in more number of leaves per plant, more
number of laterals per plant, higher number of flowers per plant & per
square meter, higher weight of flowers per plant, per square meter & per
hectare and maximum girth of flower stalk. Cycocel @ 2000 ppm + Black
Polyethylene Mulch (40μ) + Drip Irrigation produced more leaf area
(2245.55 cm2), diameter of flower (6.10 cm) and maximum vase life (9.64
days). In contrary, Gibberellic Acid along with Black Polyethylene Mulch
(40μ) and Drip Irrigation produced long statured plants, earliness in
flowering and days to fifty per cent flowering. While, Gibberellic Acid @
150 ppm + Black Polyethylene Mulch (40μ) + Drip Irrigation increased
the length of flower stalk (43.73 cm).
Cycocel @ 2000 ppm +Black Polyethylene Mulch (40μ) +Drip
Irrigation resulted in higher productivity (5.4 t/ha), net profit (Rs.2,
11,505) and cost: benefit ratio of 1:3.21.
