Description |
A field study was conducted during rabi 1989- 90 at the Horticultural Garden, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad to study the performance of coriander cultivars at different dates of sowing under Hyderabad conditions. The treatments consisted a combination · of three dates of sowing (20th October, 4th November and 19th November) and six cultivars (Local, co-1, co-2, cs-2 ·, cs-4 and cs-6) • The experiment was. laid out in a split plot design, replicated four times. Dates of sowing and varieties effected growth, flowering, yield attributes, uptake of N, P and K, seed and essential oil yield significantly. Early sowing i.e., 20th October resulted in maximum pl~t height, dry matter production,_1 branches plant , umbels plant , umbelets umbel , uptake of N, P and K, seed and essential oil yield. Sowing on 19th November resulted in early flowering, SO per cent flowering and minimum flowering duration. Delayed flowering and maturity were recorded with early sowing followed by 4th November sowing. Among . different cultivars tested, cs-4 recorded more plant height, . branches plant , dry matter production, days for flowering, SO per c~it flowering, durat!£n of flowering, umJ;>els plant _1 umbelets umbel , 1000 seed weight, mericarps plant , uptake of N, P and K, seed and essential oil yield followed by co-2. The least performance was noticed in local cul ti var. Significant interaction between sowing dates and varieties was noticed in mericarps plant , seed and essential oil yield. cs-4 recorded maximum essential 2il yield in three dates of sowing, more mericarps plant and seed yield with two dates of sow.'j.ng (·i.e., 20th October, .. 4th November) followed by C0-2. Whereas in late sowing (19th November) reverse trend .was noticed. All the characters included .in the study exerted significant linear relationship with the seed as well as essential oil yield. Character association among the different characters was also found positively significant. Uptake of K and N by seed, N and K by stem, mericraps plant , · duration of flowering, umbelets umbel , plant height, umbels plant , branches plant and days for flowering exerted a positive direct effect pn ·seed yield, whereas dry weight of seed and stem, days for 50 per ·cent flowering, uptake of P by stem and · seed and ' 1000 . seed weight exerted a negative direct effect on seed yield. All the characters other than dry · weight of seed and stem, days 'to 50 pe7 cent flowering, umbels plant and 1000 seed weight exerted positive direct effect on essential oil yield. |
