Description Ethanol, acetone and water extracts of six Aloe species viz.; A. barbadensis, A. ferox, A. indica, .rupestris, A. variegata, A. saponariawere investigated for their total phenols, flavonoids and minerals (Cu, Mn, Zn, Fe) content. Total phenols were estimated by Folin-Ciocalteu method, flavonoids by aluminum chloride colorimetric method and minerals by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The antioxidant activity and antiradical activity of different extracts of these plants were measured by three different methods viz; β-carotene bleaching method (BCBM), 2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl DPPH) free radical scavenging activity and ferric thiocyanate (FTC) method. Maximum concentration of phenols in ethanol extract was estimated from A. variegeta (0.025 mg GAE/g), 0.024 mg GAE/g from A. barbedensis in water and 0.160 mg GAE/g in acetone extract from A. barbedensis using Folin-Cioalteu method. Colorimetric method found effective in extracting the flavonoids to the extent of 14.0 mg CE/g from A. barbedensis in ethanol, 15.74 mg CE/g in water from A. barbedensis and 9.29 mg CE/g from A. barbedensis in water. Among minerals, maximum concentration of Cu, Mn, Zn and Fe were detected in acetone extracts of A. ferox (203.7 ppm), A. indica (494.8 ppm), A. variegeta (242.2 ppm) and A. saponaria (1418ppm), respectively. Best result of antioxidant activity (78.7%) was shown by FTC method in acetone extract of A. barbedensis. Antiradical activity of extracts was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging method. Highest activity (91.0%) was shown by water extract of A. barbedensis.
