Description |
Symptoms observed in animals suffering from bovine tropical theileriosis, at Madras were described. Ticks collected from confirmed cases during 1979-82 were identified as, Hyalomma marginatum isaaci, H hyalommina brevipunctata, H h. hussaini, H. anatolicum anatolicum, Boophilus microplus and Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides. Analysis of cases confirmed for Theiloria annulata infection, during the twelve years 1971-82, revealed that exotic, crossbred and indigenous adults and calves were susceptible and the incidence among calves constituted 13.68% of total number of cases. Buffaloes were also affected. Increased incidence of the disease were observed during summer (March, April) and North east monsoon (August and November) in adults as well as in calves. The disease occurred in all the districts with highest incidence at Madras and very few cases in Salem and Nilagiris.
