Description |
Investigations on the screening of germplasm against pest complex and management of S. litura were undertaken during rabi, 2004-2005 at the Agricultural College Farm, Bapatla. A total of 34 genotypes was screened for resistance against pest complex in comparison with two standard checks viz., JL 24 and TMV-2. The variety, TMV-2 was used in the management trial. Among the 34 genotypes screened against the pest complex, ICGV – 86031, ICGV – 86590, K – 1320, K – 1340 and K – 1383 were found resistant against the aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch; ICGV – 86031, ICGV – 86252, ICGV-86393, ICGV – 86590, K – 1268, K – 1274, K-1310, K - 1327 and K – 1340 were found resistant against the leafhopper, Empoasca kerri (Pruthi); ICGV – 86031, ICGV – 86252, K – 1320, K – 1340, K – 1363 and K – 1383 were found resistant against the leafminer, Aproaerema modicella (Deventer). The genotypes, ICGV – 86031 and K – 1340 were found resistant against all the three pests. Investigation on the management of S. litura on groundnut revealed treatment with indoxacarb (0.0145%) alone, combination treatments of novaluron (0.005%) with indoxacarb (0.00725%) and spinosad (0.0075%) to be the most effective in reducing the larval populations of S. litura followed by the corresponding individual treatments. The treatments, novaluron (0.005%) + B. t. (0.1%), novaluron (0.005%) + nimbecidine (0.15%) and poison bait I were the least effective among all the treatments against S. litura. The treatments, indoxacarb (0.0145%) alone, novaluron (0.005%) + spinosad (0.0075%) and novaluron (0.005%) + indoxacarb (0.00725%) recorded the highest pod yields whereas, novaluron (0.005%) + B. t. (0.1%), novaluron (0.005%) + nimbecidine (0.15%) recorded the lowest pod yields. |
