Description An experiment was condu:::ted to study the "Effect of
plant growth regulators on growth, flowering and yield of
marigold ('ragetes erect a L.) 11 at s. V. Agricultural College,
'T'irupati during kharif ยท, 1990.
The effect of three conoontrations each of three
growth regulators, viz., CCC (250, 500 and 1000 ppm), NAA
(25,50 and 100 ppm) and MH (125, 250 and 500 ppm) was studied.
'!'here were altogether 9 treatments along with cne control.
'l'he experiment was laid out in simple randanized block design
with three replications. Observaticns on different growth and
yield characters were recorded.
In general, all the chemical treatments differed
significant ly from control in in E 1 uenc ing the various parameters.
NAA enhanced plant height, diameter of flower and length of peduncle. However, it delayed flowering and
resulted in the prc:duction of less number of laterals and
there by less number of flowers per plant and finally less
yields. NAA was found to be most effective at 100 ppm
concentration.
1he growth retardant CCC suppressed the plant
height and induced a greater number of laterals which
ultimately resulted in higher yields of flowers. 'l'he most
important contribution of r.cc is the advancement of flowerii"
XJ md increasing the vase life of flowers.
MH was more effective in inhibiting the plant height
as well as the length of peduncle. In respect of production
of laterals, earliness of flowering, size of t.he flowers and
yield per hectare, it stood next to CCC. Regarding dry weight
of plants it ranked next to NAA treatment.
