Description Thesis-PhD
The present investigation “Studies on influence of foliar application of plant growth regulators on growth, flowering and post–harvest life of tuberose (Polianthes tuberose L.)’’ was conducted during March, 2008 to March, 2010, at Model Floriculture Centre, Govind Ballabhs Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. Plants were sprayed with GA3 (50, 100, 150 ppm), Kinetin (50, 100, 150 ppm ), NAA (50, 100, 150 ppm ), Ethrel (100, 200, 300 ppm) and SADH (100, 200 300 ppm) at 10-15 leaf and spike emergence stage.
Kinetin 150 ppm with cv. Kalyani Double (C2T6) recorded maximum mean number of leaves (67.83), mean plant height (57.67 cm), mean diameter of first opened floret (5.05 cm), mean days to withering of first opened floret (5.50 days), mean flowering duration (22.67 days). However, Kinetin 100 ppm with cv. Kalyani Double (C2T2) gave maximum mean spike length (105.15 cm), mean number of bulbs and bulblets per plant (34.33) and mean number of bulbs and bulblets/m2 (549.33). Maximum diameter (6.27 cm) and weight of mother bulb (133.67 g) were recorded with plant treated with NAA 50 ppm in cv. Kalyani Double (C2T7). GA3 150 ppm spray recorded earliest 50 per cent floret opening (5.83 days) with cv. Shringar (C1T3). It was also observed that maximum mean spike yield/m2 (36.83) was recorded in cv. Shringar with GA3 150 ppm (C1T3). However, the effect of interaction between growth regulators and cultivars for the following characters (spike emergence, days to first floret opening, no. of florets/spike, rachis length and vase life) were found non-significant.
