Description T-8775
Considering importance of sweet corn especially in Indian context, the present study was
undertaken with eleven sweet corn inbred lines (IPSA-8751, IPSA-8752, IPSA-8753, IPSA-
8754, IPSA-8755, IPSA-8756, IPSA-8757, IPSA-8758 , IPSA-8759, IPSA-8760, and IPSA-
8761). The inbred lines were crossed in half diallel design at Agricultural Research Station,
Amberpet, Hyderabad during rabi 2008-09 generating a total 55 F1s. A total 68 entries,
comprising of 11 inbreds and 55 F1s along with two checks (Madhuri and Priya) were evaluated
in RBD at IARI Experimental Farm, New Delhi during kharif 2009. The combining ability
analysis was carried out by procedure given by Griffing (1956b) for Method II and Model I. The
additive as well as non-additive gene effects are predominant for all the sweet corn traits. On the
basis of per se performance and general combining ability effects, P11, P10, P4, P5 and P7 were
good general combiner for important traits under study. Significant crosses on the basis of per se
performance and sca effects were found P4xP11, P4xP7, P3xP10 good specific combiner for ear
weight with and without husk; P7xP9 for ear weight without husk and protein; P5xP9 for TSS
and 100 kernel weight; and P3xP9 for total sugars and protein
