The present study was conducted on feed and fodder market and their operational efficiency entitled “A case study of cattel feed industry in Chaundouli district”. The study was conducted in the processing unit of Godrej agrovet at Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh. To identify the problems in procurement and processing of animal feeds. The company Godrej Agrovet was selected purposively which is leading animal feed processing company in all over India with 42 processing unit. The primary data were collected by the interview with Mr. Chandra Kr. Jha, Assistant Manager (PSO) and other employee of that processing plant and secondary data from company website and past record of the company. Analysis of the data with the help of sum and percentage to work out of processing cost, profit, and MRP of the finished products. The Godrej Agrovet performed various function related to procurement, processing and marketing of raw materials for animal feed and its finished product. The procurement of raw materials based on the BIS norm with 7-11% of moisture content. After purchasing of raw materials it passes to quality control both physical analysis (colour, smell, moisture and adulteration) and chemical analysis for composition of raw materials. The company procures raw materials 13917 tonnes in 2012-13 and 19467 tonnes in 2013-14. The annual growth rate of procurement of raw materials is 39.87%. Processing capacity of Godrej Agrovet in Chandauli district (Uttar Pradesh) 1 lakh tonnes per year, but it presently produce about 19000 tonnes per year. The processing plant produces 10000, 7000, and 2000 tonnes poultry feed, cattle feed and fish feed respectively with the 39.5% of annual growth rate of processing. Processing activities include dumping, grinding, mixing, steaming, Pelleting, Crumblizing, cooling, weighing, packaging, staking, dispatch of finished products. Marketing activity of Godrej Agrovet include procurement of raw material and selling of finished goods. The company sells 13368 tonnes and 18699 tonnes in 2012-13 and 2013-14 respectively. The annual growth rate in sell about 39.88%. The company procures all the raw materials in 100% credit for one month and sells their produce in 100% advance payment. The major competitors of Godrej Agrovet are Kopilla (30%), Parag (20%), and Amrit (20%). The Godrej Agrovet new in this market, bear only 3% market share. Company spend about 5% cost for promotional activities such as banner, poster and wall printing. Godrej Agrovet is the largest producer of commercial animal feed in India, with a strong presence in Dairy Feed, Aqua Feed and Poultry Feed sectors. Its production facilities are spread over 40 locations across the country and about 22% of market share. The product mix of that processing plant consists three product line such as Cattle feed, Poultry feed and fish feed. The processing plant produces 10000, 7000, and 2000 tonnes poultry feed, cattle feed and fish feed respectively. The product mix includes 13, 19 and 1 types of poultry, cattle and fish feed. The price of the products is different from each other which are depending on proportion of raw materials use and market demand base. The company spent Rs.26500/tonnes of total processing cost which is 95.24% of the total cost. Cost incurred in R.M. cost Rs. 25000/tonnes which is 89.85% of the total cost and cost incurred in fixed overhead and variable overhead 500 (1.79%) and 1000/tonnes (3.59%) respectively. Company spent Rs.1325/tonnes on marketing overhead which are 4.76% of total cost. Company net profit Rs.1010/tonnes @ 3.63% of total cost. The company spent Rs.19000/tonnes of total processing cost which is 95.24% of the total cost. Cost incurred in R.M. cost Rs. 17500/tonnes which is 87.72% of the total cost and cost incurred in fixed overhead and variable overhead 500 (2.51%) and 1000/tonnes (5.01%) respectively. Company spent Rs.950/tonnes on marketing overhead which are 4.76% of total cost. Company net profit Rs.800/tonnes @ 4.01% of total cost. There are most important fact is cost of processing of poultry feed is higher than the cost of processing of cattle feed. There is no change in cost incurred for fixed overhead, variable overhead and marketing overhead of poultry and cattle feed processing.
