Description |
The present investigation was carried out in green house of Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh during the year 2010-11. It comprised (i) Nodulation experiment especially to observe nodulation behaviour in order to select effective Rhizobium isolate for better symbiosis at 45 DAS (ii) Pot experiment for evaluation of different Rhizobium isolates especially with reference to quality and quantity of grain yield on maturity of the crop. At 45 DAS, plant biomass study associated with nodulation experiment, revealed that the highest dry shoot weight was 7.22 gm/plant, associated with isolate Raipur-II followed by the isolate Pant-I (7.07 gm/plant). Similarly, dry wt. of nodules was observed 251 mg/plant due to isolate Raipur-II followed by the isolate pant-I (229 gm/plant), while the highest number of nodules (55.50 per plant) associated with isolate Indore-II followed by the isolate Delhi (53.33 per plant). The shoot nitrogen accumulation study of the same nodulation experiment indicated that highest shoot N-uptake associated with local isolate Raipur-II (154.32 mg/plant) followed by isolate Pant-I (148.48 mg/ plant). Further, findings of pot experiment also revealed that highest grain yield of soybean was obtained (8.72 gm/plant) from plants raised from seeds inoculation with isolate Raipur-II followed by isolate Pant-I (8.50 gm/plant). Similarly, highest grain N- uptake was associated with isolate Raipur-II (556.33 mg/plant.) followed by isolate Pant I (530.40 mg/plant). Keeping in view of experimental findings of both the experiments related to most effective BNF parameter like nodulation, biomass and N-accumulation by shoot at 45 DAS of nodulation experiment, grain yield and N- uptake of pot grown soybean, performance of native isolate Raipur-II was found superior followed by isolate Pant-I among all eight isolates under the study. Rhizobial population dynamics study also supported the effectiveness and superiority of these isolates. Hence, it was concluded that the isolate Raipur-II is the most potent N2 fixer for soybean cultivation under agro climatic conditions of Chhattisgarh. |
