Description |
Burn injury in pets occurs when intense heat damages the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Burns may be classified by the mechanism or etiology of the injury as thermal, radiation, electrical or chemical (Pope, 1993). Thermal burn in small animals are caused by fire, hot liquids (water/oil), semi-liquid/semi-solid substances such as tar, or direct contact with hot objects such as automobile exhaust pipes and hot stoves or due to improper use of hair dryers (Baxter, 1988). |
