Description |
The experiment was conducted with four cultivars of sorghum viz., M35-1, IS-923 (Glo•sy type) and IS-4621, CS-3541 (Non-glos•y type) replicat•d fiv• times in a randamis•d block design to examin• varietal response to seasonal effect on growth and yield. Th• crop was raised in summer (January, 1984 to April, 1984) and winter (September, 1984 to D•cemb•r, 1984). The differential response of cultivars in both the seasons was assessed by determining growth parameters in terms of CGR, RGR, RSGR,SLW, NAR, LAI, HI and yield. Sorghum cultivars grown in summer season has produced more number of leaves and reduced the duration of crop growth period by inducing early earhead emergence, flowering, shorter grain filling period and maturity period. And produced less total drymatter, 100grain weight and yield. In summer more number of grains per earhead were produced and are small in size and lesser in 100grain weight than in winter. In winter season more plant drymatter, CGR, RGR (except M35-1) LAI, yield were obtained. heiQht totalNAR, HI and Difference in ;rain size and yield among the cultivars was caused by different rates of assimilation, storage after anthesis in the individual grain. Different storage rates are the result of differential supply of the individua l grain with assimilate from the different assimilate production organs. All sorghum cultivara pe rformed better in winter season than in: summer Among the cultivars, glos sy types viz., IS-923 and M3~-1 produced more yield • |
