Description A study was undertaken on 72 selected recombinant inbred lines of cross
BPT 5204 x HPR 14 during 2013 with an objective of assessing yield
components, total protein, total carbohydrates and micro nutrients traits. These
genotypes were developed with an objective of developing genotype with high
yielding, fine grained with increased protein content. High PCV and moderate
GCV were recorded for head rice recovery, 1000 grain weight, amylose content,
copper and manganese. High heritability and genetic advance was observed for
head rice recovery, total grain protein, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, total
grain protein, grain length and amylose, indicating additive gene effect.
Significant positive correlation was absorbed for total grain protein,
carbohydrate, iron, copper, zinc, grain length, grain breadth, moisture and
amylose. Whereas protein is negatively correlated with copper and iron.
Carbohydrate was positively correlated with iron and manganese. Whereas
carbohydrate was negatively correlated with zinc and copper. QTL’s were
identified for grain quality parameters i.e. for carbohydrate on chromosome 2
and chromosome 9 at map distance of 74.51 cM and 34.31 cM. 3 QTL’s for
protein on chromosome 1, 3 and 9, with map distance of 68.71, 22.61 and 0.01
cM. One QTL for iron on chromosome 2 at map distance of 11.31cM. One QTL
for moisture on chromosome 11 at map distance of 11.71 cM. Two QTL’s was
identified on chromosome 2 at map distance 0.01 and 70.51 cM. One QTL for
grain length and breadth on chromosome 7 and 9 with map distance of 46.01
and 91.11 cM. Two QTL’s for amylose on chromosome 5 and 7 wit map distance
of 0.01 and 35.41 cM respectively. Genotype HPR 69 and HPR 1040 recorded
highest carbohydrate content (82%) superior over checks and parents, HPR
1757 recorded highest protein content (16.50%) superior over checks and
parents, HPR 1040 recorded highest iron content (23.54ppm), MAS 946-1
recorded highest zinc (23.54ppm) and 1000 grain weight (24.00g), HPR 1339
recorded highest grain length (9mm) and length to breadth ratio (3.9mm), HPR
1334 recorded highest head rice recovery (79.61g) and manganese (19.10ppm)
and HPR 18 recorded highest amylose (36.32%), superior over checks and
parents respectively.
