Description |
The laboratory experiments were conducted in department of Seed Science and Technology, UAS, Bangalore to know the effect of invigouration treatments on enhancing seed quality parameters of naturally aged seed lots maize and cotton. Seeds primed with KH2PO4 at 1 per cent recorded higher seed quality attributes in maize and cotton viz., germination (88 & 79 %), field emergence (70 & 66%), amylase activity (0.782 & 0.776 ), TDH (1 .71 & 2.95) and lower EC (0.288 & 2.95 dS/m) respectively. Seeds primed with KH2PO4 at 1 per cent recorded higher seed quality attributes in maize and cotton viz., germination (63% & 64%), field emergence (49% & 58%) , amylase activity (0.722 & 0.71 ), TDH (1.450 & 2.63) and lower EC (0.245 & 0.30dS/m) followed by hydropriming at the end of 6 days of aging period and lowest was recorded in non primed seeds. Seeds primed with KH2PO4 at 1 per cent recorded higher germination (66 % in L1), field emergence (49 % in L3), TDH (1.66 in L3) and lower EC (0.26 dSm-1 in L1) after six months of storage in maize, and lowest seed quality attributes were recorded non primed seeds. In cotton higher seed quality attributes viz., (64% L1, 58% L1, 2.33 in L3) and lower (0.31 dSm-1 in L1) were registered, and lowest seed quality attributes were recorded non primed seeds. Hence, the study revealed that 1 per cent KH2PO4 priming enhanced seed quality parameters of naturally aged seed lots maize and cotton. |
