Description Intectious bursal disease (IBD) was first reported from Gumboro, USA in chicken by Cosgrove (1952), and in India by Mohanty et al., (1971). Outbreaks of IBD were reported in Namakkal, a major poultry belt of Tamil Nadu since 1988 (Purushothaman et al., 1988; Reddy, 1994). This experimental study was carried out to assess the progressive haematological and serum biochemical changes induced by the infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) in chicken.
