Description The present investigation entitled ―Association of physio-biochemical traits with drought tolerance in a recombinant inbred population of wheat‖ was carried out at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during Rabi season 2012-13 and 2013-14 with the objectives to assess the contribution of physio-biochemical traits and their association to drought tolerance in a recombinant inbred population of wheat (C 518/2*PBW 343) and identification of tolerant recombinant lines. The experiment was laid out in a square lattice design with three replications under irrigated and rainfed environments. Drought stress was created by withholding of irrigation. During 2012-13, frequency distribution for 688 inbred lines was found to be approximately normal for the morpho-physiological and yield component traits. It showed transgressive segregation for all these traits, further confirming the genetic diversity of parents. Both the parents PBW 343 and C 518 showed distinct response with respect to all the traits. The wide variation unleashed in this cross was assessed for drought tolerance using a set of drought indices. On the basis of drought indices, 175 promising lines were selected for confirmatory and detailed evaluation on the basis of physio-biochemical traits in the next crop season. During 2013-14, analysis of variance for the physio-biochemical and yield components characters was conducted. Highly significant (P
