Description ABSTRACT
The studies on incidence and management of fruit borer, Conopomorpha litchiella infesting litchi revealed maximum incidence of the borer pest in district Kangra followed by Mandi, Sirmour, Hamirpur and Bilaspur, respectively. The bio-efficacy study in both the modules proved that the synthetic insecticides viz., lambda cyhalothrin, cypermethrin and quinalphos performed relatively better as compared to monocrotophos and chlorpyriphos in the decreasing order whereas the bio-pesticides were found to be least effective of all the three groups of insecticides included in the study. All the treatments in both the modules recorded harvest time residues below determination limit (BDL) irrespective of number of sprays and test concentrations. No phytotoxicity symptoms were recorded in any of the treatments in both the concentrations and modules. The insecticides viz., lambda cyhalothrin, cypermethrin and quinalphos were able to avoid yield loss due to fruit borer to a considerable extent and the values for the parameter varied between 81.14 and 83.05 per cent in these three most effective chemicals compared to bio-pesticides where the values were found to lie between 22.42 and 49.93 in the two modules for both concentrations used in the study. The BCR values for these insecticides were recorded to be very high (range 136.96:1 and 825.35:1) as against < 1.0-9.61:1 calculated for the three bio-pesticides included in the study.
