Description |
The present study was carried out on alternative ways to combat the situation encompassing cultural practices, screening in the level of resistance in locally popular variety, study on natural parasitization intensity level and identification of potential one, efficacy of predator (Chrysoperla carnea Stephens) in laboratory and field condition, effect of microbial pesticides (Bt formulations), efficacy of ready mix formulation of insecticides and their residue in/on brinjal fruits. With regard to the cultural practices, intercropping of spices along with brinjal was studied and from the experiment it is revealed that intercropping with Coriander in continued line and in single line in alternate rows, Fennel and Nigella showed 15.25 & 16.22, 15.20, 17.67 per cent fruit infestation respectively in comparison to sole brinjal cultivation where the per cent infestation by L. orbonalis was 35.75. Study on varietal susceptibility was undertaken on five locally popular open type cultivar of brinjal. Result reveals that Seorafuli local (Saheb Begoon) was less susceptible among other cultivars though yielded much less (95.41 q/ha) than that of average productivity of 132.38 q/ha. Study on natural parasitisation of L. orboinalis revealed that Trathala flavoorbitalis Cam. (Hymenoptera : Ichneumonidae) and Bracon spp. (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) were important parasitoids. Feeding potentiality of C. carnea (a neuropteran predator) on the eggs of L. orbonalis in laboratory condition showed that mature grub of neuropteran predator was found to consuming 562-689 eggs throughout its active developmental stage and completes its life cycle successfully. In field condition the persistence of C. carnea showed that only in the drier part of the year their retention ability was little bit higher. Effect of Bt formulations showed that Dipel 8L, Delfin WG, Lepinox 15WDG & Crymax 15 WDG reduced the infestation of L. orbonalis at level of 50%, 49.48%, 45.26% and 43.06% over control when sprayed @ 1 Lt., 1 Kg, 2.5 Kg, 1.250 Kg per ha., respectively at the afternoon hour and the yield of brinjal also increased 36.90, 34.76, 29.63 and 22.04 percent respectively over control. Effect of ready mix formulation on the infestation of L. orbonalis showed that Endosulfan 35 EC + Cypermethrin 5 EC @ 1000 ml/ha reduced the infestation 66.24% with an increment of yield 79.97% over control.
