Description |
The present investigation entitled, “Variability and Correlation analysis in diverse genotypes of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)” Under Varanasi conditions” was carried out in twenty one genotypes of French bean at the Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi during winter season 2011 to 2012. The experimental design laid out in Randomized Block Design and each treatment was replicated three times. Observations were recorded on five randomly selected plants in each replication for fifteen traits viz, days to 50% flowering, days to 100% flowering, days to pod maturity, pod length (cm), pod width (cm), number of primary branches per plant, plant height (cm), pod weight (g), number of seed per pod, seed weight (g), number of pods per plant (g), 100 seed weight (g), seed yield per hectare (q), pod yield per plant, pod yield per hectare (q).On the basis of performance the lines viz, Swarna Priya, EC592938, Arka Komal, VHP-9, Kentucky, PDR-14, RCFB-64, HAFB-3 and VL-Bean-3 were found to be the best genotypes for multiple traits and so these can be used as parent for future breeding programme.
