Description A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2012 at Oilseeds Section, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, to study the effect of integrated weed management practices in groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.). The experiment comprising 15 treatments viz; pendimethalin @ 750 g/ha, pendimethalin @ 1000 g/ha, pendimethalin @ 750 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, pendimethalin @ 1000 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, alachlor @ 1000 g/ha, alachlor @ 1250 g/ha, alachlor @ 1000 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, oxyfluorfen @ 150 g/ha, oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha, oxyfluorfen @ 150 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, two HW at 3 and 6 WAS, weedy check and weed free, was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS and two HW at 3 and 6 WAS recorded significantly lower density and dry weight of weeds next only to weed free check. Weed free check recorded significantly highest number of pods per plant (25.9) closely followed by two HW at 3 and 6 WAS (20.6), which was on par with pendimethalin @ 1000 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, alachlor @ 1000 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS and oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS (18.2, 17.6, 18.6 and 17.8, respectively). Statistically highest shelling percentage was recorded in weed free treatment (69.7%) closely followed by oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS (67.7%) and two HW at 3 and 6 WAS (67.7%). All the yield parameters were significantly lower in weedy check.
Significantly highest pod yield was recorded in weed free treatment (1913 kg/ha). Among chemical weed control treatments, oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS recorded higher pod yield (1555 kg/ha) closely followed by alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS (1550 kg/ha). Statistically lowest pod yield was recorded in weedy check (605 kg/ha) over all other weed control treatments. Weeds growing throughout the crop season reduced the pod yield of groundnut to the extent of 68.4% compared to weed free check. Whereas, alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS, oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS and two HW at 3 and 6 WAS provided effective control of weeds and thereby increased the pod yield of groundnut to the extent of 156-160% over weedy check. In present study, the weed free treatment recorded highest net return (Rs. 59477/ha) and higher B-C ratio (1:1.72). Among herbicidal treatments, higher net return and highest B-C ratio have attained in plots treated with alachlor @ 1250 g/ha + 1 HW at 6 WAS (Rs. 55949/ha and 1:1.92, respectively) closely followed by oxyfluorfen @ 200 g/ha + 1 HW 6 WAS (Rs. 55155/ha and 1:1.90, respectively).
